Apam Balik Manis

This Apam Balik Manis is originally from Penang, done by the Indians. They use flour and sugar and add Durian, Nutella, ‘Sunnyside’ (Sweet Orange Creamy Kampung Eggs), Montel Bananas, Australian Cheese and many more as the filling.
Apam Balik Manis is actually thin, crispy pancakes.

I had the chance to try it at TTDI, Kuala Lumpur. The stall is situated in front of Devi’s Corner.

The Durian

Widely know and revered in Southeast Asia as the “king of fruits”, the durian is distinctive for its large size, unique odour and formidable thorn-covered husk.

The fruit can grow as large as 30cm long and 15cm in diameter. Typically weighs 1 – 3 kgs.

The edible flesh emits a distinctive odour, strong and penetrating even when the husk is intact. Some people regard the durians as fragrant: others find the aroma overpowering and offensive.

My late father’s friend from New Zealand describe it as, “eating sweet custard by the side of a public toilet”
